about

The music from the 1942 film Bint Zawat (Daughter of Aristrocrats), directed by and starring Youssef Wahbi (b. July 14, 1900; d. Oct. 17, 1982), was composed by Mohammed Abdel Wahab (b. March 13, 1907; d. May 4, 1991). Wahab composed Abdel Halim Hafez’s 1957 song “Ya Albi Ya Khali,” which is among the first Egyptian songs overtly influenced by American rock n roll, but this one, based in folk dance music, pounds as well as any jump blues rocker of the 40s.
