about

We know very little about the singer Edna (or Edma) Marrache (Adma Maraash).
She was born around 1894, the daughter of a silk merchant and was married to a merchant named Yusuf Marrache who was born in Damascus around 1890. The two of them arrived in New York City as Egyptian citizens sailing from France in October 1927 along with the celebrated Aleppo-born violinist Sami al Shawwa (b. 1889; d. 1965).

She recorded at least eight discs on her own label in 1927-28, one of which was manufactured in both the U.S. and France. Sami al Shawwa appears to perform on several of them.

A banquet in her honor was held in March 1928 at the Oriole Terrace in Detroit. In August 1928, she performed at a dinner at the Hotel St. George in honor of Joseph Stephan, the visiting Deputy of the Republic of Lebanon.
