about

WARNING: drone-noise project.

"Astronomeous have set out for the moon. Their self-titled cassette released on catsup plate recordings is a log of some of their exploits. Frequencies twist, waver and creep in slowly. Pulses and tones coax as if on a cloud. Jason Glover, Ian Nagoski and Chris Rice have put together a field recording of feedback and electronics that is some of the finest quality to come from the States. The fact that this is a three dollar cassette makes me shake my head in disbelief. The cheap recordings (or cheap instruments) sound haunting and beautiful without being overwhelming. Sounds come and go and they step cautiously with sensory equipment, picking up frequencies and adjusting the dials. By the second side, the crew of Astronomeous have thrown down their instruments and, kicked off their moon boots and go on to savor the sights of the galaxy with its new soundtrack. If anyone asked me to vote for top picks of '96, Astronomeous would be pretty high on the list."
-Ted Sonnenschein, Dialogue With Space #9

"This is some of the most interesting music I've heard lately. I was quite quite impressed. [...] The first side is like a long nonstop adventure into this weird new wave kind of noisy instrumental stuff. It's great. The second side continues with the trend, but improves with a fantabulous display of talent. Heh. [...] But honestly, this is one of my favorite tapes I've gotten lately."
-Brad Rose, Foxy Digitalis #4
