Revolutionary political and military leader Pancho Villa (b. June 5, 1878; d. July 20, 1923) was killed a month or less prior to the recording of track 1.

Revolutionary military leader and president of Mexico Álvaro Obregón (b. Feb. 19, 1880; d. July 17, 1928) was killed a month or less prior to the recording of tracks 3 & 4, composed by Guty Cardenas (b. 1905; d. 1932).

The ballad of the bandit and anti-authoritarian Benito Canales (b. ca. 1880; d. 1912) was published in print by 1920, first recorded in Los Angeles in 1923, and recorded many times subsequently.
